Hot Chocolate Stirrers a recipe for Valentine's Day

One of my favorite thing about having children is having an excuse to make a big deal about holidays.

We celebrate all of the major (and many minor) holidays by decorating, crafting, and most importantly, creating fun dishes!

When my daughter was about 2 years old, her grandma gave her an adorable pink apron and chef’s hat. I can’t remember what dish we ended up making (although, it clearly involved caramel), but she has had a love for baking ever since.

Fast forward to now, when she is 8 years old, and she is preparing dishes in the kitchen, almost entirely on her own!

This year, we made hot chocolate stirrers for Valentine’s Day! They are adorable heart-shaped marshmallows drizzled with melted milk chocolate.

They’re easy enough for an inexperienced cook, or an 8-year-old to make!

Hot Chocolate Stirrers for Valentine’s Day

Start by lining a baking sheet with wax or parchment paper.

Gently skewer 2 marshmallows on each skewer.
Trim the skewers 2 – 3 inches and place them on a baking sheet.

Pour 5 oz of Wilton candy melts into a bowl and microwave in 30 second increments, stirring occasionally, until melted.

Transfer chocolate into a sandwich baggy and snip one corner. Gently squeeze the melted chocolate over the marshmallows in a zig-zag pattern.

This recipe makes 10 hot chocolate stirrers.

While these are fun to make for kids, they also make great gifts for significant others and co-workers!

When you’re ready to enjoy them, just stir them into a cup of hot chocolate. Store bought is good, but you could also make your own hot chocolate recipe!

Hot Chocolate Stirrers

Heart shaped marshmallows drizzled with melted chocolate make a perfect companion for a hot cup of cocoa!

Servings 10 people

Ingredients

20 heart shaped marshmallows
10 BBQ Skewers
10 oz package Wilton chocolate candy melts

Instructions

Line a baking sheet with wax or parchment paper.
Gently skewer 2 marshmallows on each BBQ skewer.
Use the kitchen scissors to trim down the BBQ skewer 2-3 inches and place them on the baking sheet.
Pour 5 oz of the Wilton candy melts into a microwave safe dish. Heat in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring occasionally until melted.
Let the melted chocolate cool a few minutes and scoop into the small sandwich baggy. Snip one corner of the sandwich baggy and gently squeeze the melted chocolate over the marshmallows in a zig-zag pattern.
Repeat with all marshmallow stirrers.
