Spread the love
Homemade Muesli

It has been a little over a week since I gave birth to my second child!  I have been getting back into a routine, and am trying to eat healthy, so I can feel as good as possible.

As I am also breastfeeding, I want to make sure I am providing my body with good nutrients, so it can be well nourished to feed my son.  I am, admittedly, terrible at making healthy breakfasts.

When I am working, I seldom make the time to eat healthy, and end up driving through for breakfast burritos instead!  So, while I am on maternity leave, and have a little extra time, I wanted to establish some healthy breakfast habits that I can easily sustain when I return to work.

I decided that a quick and healthy breakfast is one I can make at night and grab on my way to work.  I put together a homemade muesli recipe, and it turned out wonderfully!  As a side note, some women have said oats help boost their milk supply, so this recipe may be especially beneficial for nursing moms.

This homemade muesli recipe has great nutrients from organic oats, dried fruit and seeds.  It keeps me full for the duration of the morning, and there is enough flexibility with the recipe that I can change it to accommodate any ingredients I have in my pantry that need to be used.

I also love this homemade muesli recipe, because I can prepare it at night, and it’s pretty much ready to go in the morning.

Homemade Muesli Recipe

  • 1 1/2 cups rolled or quick oats
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • Juice from a lemon
  • Optional: fresh or dried fruit, nuts, seeds, raw cocoa nibs, ground cinnamon and/or nutmeg

Combine the oats, milk, apple juice and lemon juice in a mason jar or glass container, and stir.  Cover and refrigerate over night. In the morning, add in any desired ingredients, stir, and enjoy!

You can modify this recipe to any serving size you like… just use equal parts oats to liquid.  You can even adjust the apple juice/milk ratio, or decrease the milk and add in greek yogurt instead.

There are so many ways to modify this to make it perfect for your needs, while still keeping it an easy peasy recipe.
