I think the first time I ever remember making a homemade chocolate chip cookie recipe from scratch was in Home Ec, in 7th grade. In my little mini kitchen, at the mature age of 12, I was delighted to learn I could take simple ingredients, like flour, sugar and baking soda, and turn it into such a delightful creation.
I went home and asked my mom to buy me baking supplies so I could recreate all of the recipes I learned in that class, including Pineapple Upsidedown Cake (mmm… I need to make that soon).
Since I now have the love for cooking and occasionally baking, I want to teach my daughter how to make her own food, and share this passion with her.
She is admittedly more interested in baking at this point, than cooking savory dishes, but I can tell she is going to be a natural. She holds out measuring cups, pours in ingredients, and occasionally smashes eggs (when I’m in a cleaning mood). We have so much fun creating desserts together, and I cherish those times with her.
It recently occurred to me that I have never made a simple, homemade chocolate chip cookie recipe with her. I used to make them a lot, but must have forgotten about this classic, somewhere along the way. I figured it was mighty time to correct that blunder, and whip up a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies with my daughter, stat!
Just a quick warning, these are not healthy for the body, but they sure are a treat for the spirit 🙂 And they are, after all, homemade.
